Making Sense Of It All

Considering all the things Carolina has done in the past few weeks, it’s reasonable to feel scared that they’ll make an irrational decision out of nowhere. However, we have to remember that all moves the Panthers have made thus far have two things in common: first is that they want to create a team that has longevity, and second is that they want to find the best payers for each position. Free agency will be about selecting the people that fit an intermediate description and the draft is about filling both requirements.

While it might be intriguing to replace a former No. 1 draft pick with another top pick at quarterback, making sense from a 2021 draft perspective, there is still the matter of all the time in between.

When you really think about it, the theme of the entire team for the 2020 season is about proving themselves. Otherwise, why would owner David Tepper go out of his way to find himself a bunch of proven experts (each with some degree of familiarity to one another) and put a (very expensive) program whisperer in charge of it all?

It’s best to invest in a product when it’s at its lowest price point, so of course Tepper is all in on the team now because he’s watched his initial investment go south for two years straight. With flesh and blood being the most uncertain investment anybody can make, wouldn’t it make more sense to stick with a former MVP who is working their tail off in order to return at full health?
