What would Jordan Love bring to the Panthers?

There is much to like about Jordan Love’s skill set despite a disappointing final year from an Aggies’ team that lost some key offensive weapons heading into 2019. The quarterback completed 61.9 percent of his passes on the way to 3,402 yards, 20 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions.

Love propelled himself to potential superstardom in 2018, throwing for 3,567 yards, 32 touchdowns, and just six interceptions. He has drawn comparisons to Super Bowl-winning signal-caller Patrick Mahomes thanks to his ability to make something out of nothing on the field.

The prospect has tremendous athleticism and can move out of the pocket with ease. If he can improve his pocket awareness and vision down the field, then Love can become a starter at the next level.

Teddy Bridgewater signed a three-year, $63 million deal with the Carolina Panthers to prize him away from the New Orleans Saints in free agency. The organization does have an out regarding the player’s contract in 2022 if he does not live up to expectations.

Drafting Love with one of their early selections would be a hugely controversial move. Carolina focused heavily on their offense during the free-agent period, which has left them incredibly short of defensive depth.

This will need to be addressed early and often in the 2020 NFL Draft. Bringing in Love might have some long-term benefits. But it could also impact the timeframe of the Panthers’ expected rebuild going forward.

Any such move would also cast some considerable doubt over the team’s confidence in Bridgewater to become their starter for a prolonged period. The former Minnesota Viking has worked exceptionally hard to come back from a career-threatening leg injury and deserves a shot at leading a franchise once again.

Love represents a typical prospect that teams normally fall for. He has a very high ceiling and has all the intangibles scouts are looking for in the pass-happy world of today’s NFL.
