3 reasons why Cam Newton is not declining
By Dean Jones
1. Time to recover
Although it has been a far from ideal situation regarding Cam Newton’s injury recovery. It might end up doing the former Carolina Panthers quarterback the world of good in terms of longevity.
His style of play has brought with it some big hits over the years. And some questioned whether this would eventually cut the player’s career short. As it turns out, Newton has had the best part of two years not getting blasted by opposing defenders thanks to two serious injuries.
This would have done his body an untold amount of good. Newton is one of the most physically imposing players under center the NFL has ever seen. And this time away from the field would undoubtedly give him a new sense of appreciation of the game and what it has done for him.
It is easy to forget this when one is thrust into the limelight. Newton burst onto the scene at Auburn before going No. 1 overall to the Panthers. His subsequent rise to superstardom was nothing short of extraordinary. So it could have been easy to go away from what made the quarterback love the game in the first place.
Newton appears reinvigorated and will no doubt have a huge chip on his shoulder when he gets to another organization. If this also comes with an improved physicality and ability to throw the ball, then someone is going to have a game-changing player on their hands.
