Carolina Panthers: Cornerback target – Kayvon Webster

Another intriguing option for the Carolina Panthers is they want another cornerback for training camp competition is Kayvon Webster. The much-traveled player remains on the market after spending last season with the Washington Redskins, where he made $910,000 in base salary.

It would appear unlikely that Webster would be looking for anything higher than that given the relative lack of interest during free agency so far. He saw the field for 66 percent of Washington’s defensive snaps in 2019 from the two games he was involved in. The player also boasts career stats of 118 solo tackles, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and 23 pass deflections with four teams in his seven-year career.

The former third-round pick from South Florida is an experienced presence that can operate either on the outside on as a slot cornerback. This sort of versatility is something Matt Rhule and defensive coordinator Phil Snow have sought from their defensive players since they arrived with the Panthers.

This would only be a fighting chance for the player. But that is all the Webster is probably looking for at this particular stage of his career. Whether he still has enough left in the tank to make the most of such an opportunity is another matter entirely.
