Carolina Panthers trade target: Malik Reed (OLB)

Malik Reed performed well above expectations after arriving with the Denver Broncos as an undrafted free agent out of Nevada. He made the most out of his time on the field. And more will be expected of him in 2020.

Reed will once again slot into the Broncos’ rotation in 2020. Although he isn’t expected to earn a starting spot just yet. One could argue that the Carolina Panthers might be more willing to give him a prominent role opposite Shaq Thompson, which will currently be filled by Jermaine Carter or second-round selection Yetur Gross-Matos.

The player was on the field for almost 44 percent of the Broncos’ defensive snaps in 2019. He managed to secure 27 combined tackles, 16 solo tackles, two sacks, one pass deflection, and one fumble recovery. This represents solid production from Reed and something that came as a nice surprise to Denver’s coaching staff.

It is unlikely that any trade compensation for Reed would be significant at the present time. If he has another good year in 2020 this might be a different story. So Carolina would need to act now should they choose to go in this particular direction.

General manager John Elway is not known for giving away his assets on the cheap. But Reed is an enticing proposition given his scope for development.
