Carolina Panthers strongest positions (No. 3): Defensive tackle

– Kawann Short, Derrick Brown, Bravvion Roy, Woodrow Hamilton, Zach Kerr, Myles Adams

Things did not go according to plan for the Carolina Panthers from a defensive standpoint in 2019. Significant moves have been made since the campaign concluded, which has left them with a formidable-looking front seven that could transform their fortunes.

This is especially evident at the defensive tackle spot. The Panthers were among the league’s worst stopping the run last time out. But the addition of No. 7 overall pick Derrick Brown has a substantial amount of potential attached to it. And the player could become their defensive anchor for the next decade.

Another massive boost will be the return of Pro Bowler Kawann Short from a torn rotator cuff that ended his 2019 prematurely. The imposing figure is expected to make a return to full health. And his partnership alongside Brown is going to make things very difficult for opposing running backs to get any yardage between the tackles.

The likes of sixth-rounder Bravvion Roy, Woodrow Hamilton, and Zach Kerr will look to make their presence felt on the rotation. And Myles Adams is another who will quietly fancy his chances of landing a position on the 53-man roster.

Carolina’s coaching staff also has the option of utilizing versatile lineman Efe Obada on the interior to improve their pass-rush in specialist situations. All this points to dramatic improvement under new defensive coordinator Phil Snow.
