Here are three reasons why former Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will thrive on the New England Patriots.

Cam Newton finally has a new home nearly three months after his release by the Carolina Panthers. According to ESPN Insider Adam Schefter, the quarterback has signed a one-year deal with the New England Patriots to officially end his time on the free-agent scrapheap.

The 2015 NFL MVP could make up to $7.5 million if he reaches his incentives in New England. And it gives the former Carolina Panthers star a realistic chance of earning a starting job in week one.

As fortune would have it, the Panthers are scheduled to come up against New England in the preseason. Although whether this game will take place due to the NFL’s potential plan to shorten the fixtures prior to competitive action remains to be seen.

This is a bold move by Bill Belichick, who clearly liked what he saw regarding Newton’s conditioning on his social media posts. The team lost legendary signal-caller Tom Brady to Carolina’s NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. And they were expected to struggle with either Jarrett Stidham or Brian Hoyer under center.

Signing Newton has changed all that, providing the player is fully healthy and has rid himself of the foot and shoulder injuries that blighted his final two seasons in Carolina. He appears ready to go. And there is no telling what sort of contribution he can make with a chip on his shoulder.

There is still plenty of bitterness surrounding Newton’s departure from the Panthers. The timing was terrible. But the player bided his time and picked the right fit that should ensure he can make an instant impression from the word go.

Here are three ways that Newton is going to be a big asset for the Patriots in 2020.
