3 reasons Cam Newton will thrive on the New England Patriots

Carolina Panthers Reason No. 3: The Josh McDaniels factor
Another reason why Cam Newton could shine on the New England Patriots is offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. The pair could be a match made in heaven and it might be enough for the organization to keep the likes of the Buffalo Bills and Miami Dolphins at bay in the AFC East.
It is ironic that during his interview for the vacant head coaching job with the Carolina Panthers, McDaniels was reported “not high” on Newton and his chances of making a successful return from injury, according to Joe Person of The Athletic. If this is true, then Bill Belichick might have overruled his coordinator’s opinion when it comes to the quarterback.
That being said, there is a huge amount of potential regarding Newton and the way he can be utilized by McDaniels. The former Dever Broncos head coach was somewhat restricted in what sort of plays he could call with Tom Brady under center. But nothing would be off the table now thanks to his new arrival’s supreme skill set.
Creative play calling is something that became a staple of McDaniels’ initial tenor in the NFL. And it was a significant factor in him getting a head coaching job in the first place. The possibilities are endless when it comes to how Newton can be used. And it also spells good news for Sony Michel.
Having two players who are capable of running the ball consistently well in the backfield is a real problem for opposing defenses. Attention will naturally go towards Newton, so that could mean big things for Michel in terms of production.
McDaniels might have been reluctant to work with Newton if chosen by the Panthers. But there is nothing to suspect things will turn sour between the two going forward.
