Donte Jackson – Carolina Panthers CB

It’s tough to be too hard on Donte Jackson, who is dealing with a toe injury that is clearly hampering him on the field. That being said, it was hard not to look at his performance at the Chiefs and come to any other conclusion than disappointment.

Jackson faced another stern test of his credentials against Tyreek Hill, who is the favorite target of Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes and can make big plays at will. The Chiefs were clearly looking to test the former second-round pick’s health early and often, something that he was simply unable to cope with for large periods.

Hill enjoyed a phenomenal amount of success when he lined up opposite Jackson. This enabled the Chiefs to claw their way back into the contest after they went down by 11 early on and although Jackson tried valiantly to cope with the Pro Bowler at less than 100 percent, he was never able to find the right solution in coverage.

The wideout was targeted 18 times throughout the contest, bringing in nine receptions for 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns. This would have been more had it not been for a couple of penalties that went against the Chiefs and lays further questions at Jackson’s door regarding his ability to be a true No. 1 corner.

That might be a little harsh on the ex-LSU speedster, but with one more year remaining on his deal after this season, the Panthers are quickly reaching decision-time regarding the player.
