4 NFL Draft prospects who could help Teddy Bridgewater in 2021
By Dean Jones
Dazz Newsome – WR (North Carolina)
As stated previously, it looks as if the Carolina Panthers are going to lose Curtis Samuel this offseason. The wide receiver went over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in 2020 during the best season of his career, which won’t have gone unnoticed by other teams across the league and the organization doesn’t seem to have the free funds available to keep both him and Taylor Moton around.
If this scenario plays out as expected, then Teddy Bridgewater will be without one of his most trusted targets and a quality replacement needs to be found. Getting wideouts who can make a big impression in free agency isn’t cheap, so the best route to go would be to pick up a dynamic playmaker entering the league from the college ranks.
Dazz Newsome would be a popular choice on day two of the 2021 NFL Draft having starred for North Carolina, where he finished with 188 receptions, 2,435 receiving yards, and 18 touchdowns from 53 career games.
Newsome does a lot of his best work out of the slot and is explosive out of his cuts to create separation quickly. Perhaps not as fast as Samuel, but very few players are.
He has a rare ability to impact proceedings all over the field with enough speed to beat corners on deep routes. Newsome is an intriguing prospect who could get even better with more thorough coaching in a professional environment and Bridgewater would welcome someone of his caliber in the event Samuel ends his time in Carolina for a big-money move elsewhere.
