The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in a quarterback predicament in no small part to the eye-catching regression of Carson Wentz in 2020. Once considered one of the brightest young signal-callers in the business, the former first-round selection is now fighting for his future after being benched in favor of rookie Jalen Hurts during the campaign.

Wentz might get a reprieve from the Eagles, who got rid of their Super Bowl-winning head coach Doug Pederson in a bid to turnaround their fortunes. Whether the new regime is willing to give the player another shot remains to be seen. But other teams have now begun calling to see what the asking price is on the trade market.

New general manager Scott Fitterer stated that the Carolina Panthers plan to be “in on every deal”.

But this is one they should sit out.

Let’s take away the fact Wentz endured a torrid time under center this season for one second. Any team that looks to acquire him would also be on the hook for a considerable amount of money after he signed a four-year, $128 million contract extension that starts in 2021 and also comes with a whopping $70 million in guaranteed money.

Considering there isn’t much spare cash to go around in Carolina this offseason, coupled with Wentz’s lack of confidence that might be past the point of no return, and it is the biggest of risks.

If the Panthers get this wrong, it’s going to set them back an untold amount.
