Brian Poole – CB

  • 2020 team – New York Jets

Finding another cornerback might not be high on the Carolina Panthers’ list of priorities after drafting Jaycee Horn and Keith Taylor Jr. But adding a veteran with proven production might be worth considering while the rookie duo gets themselves up to speed.

The complications suffered by first-year players at the position are well documented. Turning out at cornerback is an unforgiving place when the smallest mistake can result in big yards or scores conceded, so if the likes of Troy Pride Jr. and Stantley Thomas-Oliver cannot be counted upon, it will leave the Panthers short of viable experience behind Donte Jackson and A.J. Bouye.

Someone like Brian Poole could be a nice scheme fit that can provide competition in camp. His production for the New York Jets in 2020 was superb when one considers the team’s overall struggles, with the former Florida stud giving up 27 receptions from 40 targets on his way to an impressive 77.1 grade from Pro Football Focus.

Poole specializes in the slot, which is where Carolina could use some additional help after Corn Elder left in free agency. Whether the coaching staff is content with their current options or not is up for debate. But if they are looking towards free agency for another option, his name should be one that is high on the shortlist of possibilities.
