Putting the speculation to rest

The longer this drags on between the Carolina Panthers and Robby Anderson, the greater the potential complications become. His absence was glaring – especially as so many members of the roster were in contact about the importance of getting into the building early – so it’s no surprise that speculation has followed.

Anderson might be looking for more financial security after going over 1,000 yards receiving for the first time in his career. Joining the Panthers proved to be a masterstroke from the player, who proved he is more than capable of making a significant impression all over the field.

Veterans are entitled to skip the voluntary period of OTAs.

This isn’t their first time around the block and in Anderson’s case, he knows exactly what is expected from Matt Rhule after working with the coach last season and throughout his time in college.

That being said, another strong campaign could ultimately price Carolina out of keeping Anderson.

They need to pay Taylor Moton, D.J. Moore, and perhaps even cornerback Donte Jackson in the not-too-distant future, who all would probably take priority over Anderson in the grand scheme of things.

Of course, the Panthers could put an end to all this speculation by giving Anderson an extension prior to the season. The salary cap is set to soar in 2022 and tying him down would clear things up definitively.

Whether this is something at the forefront of their minds is another matter entirely.
