3 benefits to the Panthers extending Robby Anderson in 2021

Peace of mind for Robby Anderson
Just what Robby Anderson thought of the Carolina Panthers drafting two wide receivers with the potential to take away some of his targets is unclear. On the face of things, it appears as if the organization is preparing for his departure next spring, although things can change quickly in the NFL.
Anderson has his reasons for staying away from voluntary OTAs. But what’s important for the player is he hits the ground running when business picks up later in the preparation period.
If he’s unable to reach the level expected early in the campaign and the likes of Shi Smith, Terrace Marshall Jr., and free-agent signing David Moore all thrive, then it’s going to become a problem.
These new additions threatening Anderson’s spot should motivate him to perform even better in 2021.
However, if the Panthers want to give him peace of mind regarding his long-term future, then offering Anderson an extension is the best way to go.
Simply put, Anderson needs to prove that his production last time out wasn’t a flash in the pan.
His numbers dipped over the second half of the campaign once teams focused on him a little more and coping with this is what separates the good wideouts from the great.
If he can do this over the first few games, then Carolina would be wise to tie Anderson down and avoid some potential complications in 2022.
It would also give Anderson plenty of confidence that the front office believes in his ability to help get the Panthers where they want to go.
