Brian Burns – Carolina Panthers DE

Superstardom could be beckoning for Brian Burns next season if he builds on an outstanding second campaign with the Carolina Panthers.

The defensive end was a huge factor on a three-down basis after evolving from a situational edge rusher during his rookie year under Ron Rivera. If further strides are made before Week 1 against the New York Jets, there are few offensive tackles in the league who’ll be able to cope with the player consistently.

Burns has now evolved into arguably the most important member of Carolina’s young defense and its undisputed leader. This is a role he is clearly taking very responsibly, which was reflected in his presence at voluntary OTAs helping teammates even when he wasn’t cleared to take part.

There aren’t more dynamic or explosive players coming off the edge than Burns when firing on all cylinders.

The former Florida State sensation is now putting these exceptional athletic attributes together. If he can continue to build and learn how to finish off plays a little better, a first-ever Pro Bowl appearance won’t be too far behind.

The player will only be helped by the arrivals of Haason Reddick, Morgan Fox, and DaQuan Jones on the defensive front.

Carolina has some strong options in this area of the field following an impressive period of recruitment. If this results in more space to work in, the better his chances of a true breakout campaign will be.
