4 reasons the Carolina Panthers should call Jaylon Smith immediately

Jaylon Smith has a chip on his shoulder
The NFL is a harsh business and it seems one bad year of production has seen Jaylon Smith removed from the equation in Dallas. This is the nature of the beast, unfortunately, but one man’s trash is another’s treasure across the league at the stage of the campaign.
At the peak of his powers, Smith is a relentless tackling machine that has shown capabilities when it comes to generating pressure. There is an obvious concern surrounding coverage, but the 2017 second-round pick seems to have the right skills to boost Phil Snow’s ever-improving defense moving forward.
The Carolina Panthers are thin at the position, even more so now with Shaq Thompson missing time as previously discussed. They might be content to go with their current options after calling up Kamal Martin from the practice squad, but players of Smith’s caliber and age don’t become available in free agency every day.
Getting cast aside is always a tough pill to swallow. Smith now has some additional motivation to prove those who wrote him off in Dallas wrong, which is a chip on the shoulder Carolina could use to its advantage.
As stated previously, they’ll have to be quick. There will be a large number of teams involved in the process, but the Panthers now have a solid environment to convince players like Smith to come on board.
