Zane Gonzalez – Carolina Panthers K

I’ll never doubt Zane Gonzalez again.

The NFC Special Teams Player of the Week has been one of the few bright spots of the season and played lights out at the Atlanta Falcons. Gonzalez made all four of his field-goal attempts (two from 50+ yards) and an extra point kick, carrying the Carolina Panthers to victory.

He led all kickers in fantasy points with 17 in Week 8.

Start or Sit in Week 9?

START.

This is tough because I’m even less confident about the offense this week than I was last week. However, Gonzalez has shown he can make big kicks when called upon so I’m trusting him to lead what should be another low-scoring affair against the New England Patriots.

The Panthers’ defense had their best outing in weeks against Atlanta. Despite giving up 13 points, Carolina had two interceptions and three sacks which lead to 11 fantasy points.

New England’s offense isn’t anything close to dynamic. Even though rookie quarterback Mac Jones has gotten more comfortable as of late.

Start or Sit in Week 9?

Buyer Beware.

Led by new acquisition Stephon Gilmore, Carolina’s defense should be able to limit Jones and New England’s passing attack. The Panthers are still the second-best team in passing yards allowed and are very competitive against the run.

However, fantasy defenses thrive on sacks and turnovers. The Patriots have only given up 15 sacks this year and Carolina is near the bottom of the league in takeaways.
