Carolina Panthers should have hired Pep Hamilton

Pep Hamilton is now the Houston Texans offensive coordinator and is off the market. However, the Carolina Panthers had plenty of time and opportunity and pry him away and reportedly did try and interview the respected figure but this request was turned down.

Hamilton would have been a fun fit for Carolina as a coach who thinks outside the box and would bring a creative mindset the offense so badly needs. Hamilton has brief experience as a head coach in the XFL and has spent time as an offensive coordinator with the Indianapolis Colts.

If we are going off of qualifications alone, Hamilton has a better resume than Ben McAdoo when one considers what he has accomplished in his career.

Coming to Carolina would have been a long shot considering Houston offered to retain him with a promotion. However, the fact he turned down an interview is a damning indictment of what he potentially perceived the Panthers’ situation to be.

Regardless of what you think of McAdoo, there is no denying that there were far more exciting and qualified candidates on the market for the Panthers. Instead, Matt Rhule went with the head-scratching move and set Carolina up for another season of frustration.

If it comes off, though, it could be the exact thing Rhule needs to save his job as he enters a pivotal 2022 campaign firmly on the hot seat.
