Carolina Panthers could target Deshaun Watson
The name that doesn’t ever go away.
Deshaun Watson’s legal issues should be wrapped up at some stage during the offseason. This situation is one that the Carolina Panthers will no doubt monitor extremely closely with a view to going back in for the Houston Texans quarterback at some stage.
Some may not like it. But team owner David Tepper has been relentless in his interest and even took one more look at Watson’s status before the trade deadline without anything concrete coming to fruition.
The likes of Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated and ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler expect the Panthers to make their move, which would obviously need to be signed off by the former Clemson star thanks to his no-trade clause.
Watson’s talent is undisputed. He is a top-five quarterback at the peak of his powers and had the sexual misconduct allegations not surfaced, then he might already be on another team.
That’s not the full story when one examines Watson’s current predicament. His legal matters need to resolve in a satisfactory fashion for Carolina or anyone else to consider such a trade, which is expected to cost a significant amount of draft capital and some quality players thrown in for good measure.
The chances of Watson landing in Carolina are remote. But it is a situation worth monitoring nonetheless.
