Carolina Panthers should monitor Aqeel Glass

It’s pretty clear that the Carolina Panthers are on the lookout for another quarterback this offseason. A recent report claiming they have been on the phone with the Minnesota Vikings regarding the potential availability of Kirk Cousins indicates this search is well underway, which could spell the end of Sam Darnold after just one season under center.

Even if the Panthers do get themselves a big fish in the trade market, selecting a development project from the college ranks could also give them another option if the team manages to find a trade partner for Darnold at some stage.

One would have to go quite far back to find an HBCU quarterback who got meaningful reps at the next level, but Aqeel Glass made a lot of people sit up and take notice throughout Legacy Bowl weel. The Alabama A&M product has a lot of nice physical attributes, has a high football IQ, and rarely got flustered when the bright lights were shining in his direction.

The two-time Deacon Jones Trophy winner could take advantage of a weak draft class to hear his name called later on in the draft. No team that selects Glass will be expecting miracles right away, so his future prospects could depend on what sort of organization the player lands with.

Carolina needs help right away with plenty at stake for Matt Rhule in 2022. However, if other needs are filled and Glass remains on the board, it could be a nice pickup with the long-term in mind.
