NY Jets could move for Christian McCaffrey

  • No. 4 and No. 10 overall selections in 2022

The New York Jets appear to be committed to Zach Wilson and finding the quarterback help this offseason. When healthy, they would be unable to acquire a player of Christian McCaffrey’s talent in the draft and he would give the young signal-caller a much-needed outlet out of the backfield.

The one downside of this move is Carolina is unlikely to get a star player back in return. Acquiring a second pick inside the top ten would be worth it, however, and give the Panthers a chance at attaining an elite draft class.

For the Jets, this is a win-now move giving Wilson such a productive dual-threat weapon to work alongside a promising second-year-pro in Michael Carter. This would also leave Gang Green with another pick inside the top 10.

Draft picks are no guarantee. With the Jets track history, perhaps the safer decision would be acquiring McCaffrey.

Any of these potential trades would have to include more than the pick, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports. These are simply the best fits for McCaffrey and the best draft positioning that could be available for the Panthers.

Trading with the Jets would send McCaffrey out of the NFC as well, helping to ensure few if any matchups against a player capable of returning to Carolina with a vengeance.
