3 red flags if the Carolina Panthers draft a quarterback in 2022

Carolina Panthers need immediate help
Considering how much is at stake for the Carolina Panthers and head coach Matt Rhule next season, this might not be the best solution in pursuit of finding a quick fix for some ongoing complications. Although some signal-callers entering the league have the talent to be productive starters one day, none come with Day 1 starting potential based on consensus projections.
Obviously, this could change depending on how each prospect transitions to the next level. But the need for transformation is evident after three successive five-win campaigns that could lead to big changes next time around if things don’t start trending on an upward curve.
Perhaps Rhule can gain another year should the quarterback he potentially drafts shows something if they see the field. However, that is no guarantee whatsoever and one suspects patience is running a little thin after so much underachievement and bold talk coming to nothing under his leadership.
Rhule has preached his seven-year plan to anyone who’ll listen. He even related his process to that of rap mogul Jay-Z during a press conference last year.
That might sound nice and something more akin to the college level. But time is not a luxury most NFL head coaches are afforded and betting progression on a signal-caller with obvious flaws is a risk – one that could cause some hesitation rather than the conviction needed.
