Carolina Panthers were smart to avoid JC Tretter

Finding the right figures to come in and instantly improve the offensive line was a major priority for the Carolina Panthers this offseason. This unit crumbled in the face of even mediocre opposition during the previous campaign and the worst part from a fan perspective was that this became entirely predictable when one considers the standard of signings made throughout 2021 free agency and the draft.

Unless the right reinforcements were found, then the Panthers could kiss goodbye any chances of turning their sinking ship back on the right path next season. Outside of Taylor Moton, one could make a strong case for all other positions needing an upgrade depending on what the coaching staff plans to do with Brady Christensen, who was majorly mismanaged throughout his rookie year.

There were calls by some for the Panthers to go after JC Tretter following his release by the Cleveland Browns. The gifted center was still playing at a high level last time out but was part of their cost-cutting measures to accommodate a lucrative deal for quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Carolina had other ideas. In came Bradley Bozeman from the Baltimore Ravens, who represents a substantial upgrade on Pat Elflein and joins the franchise on a very team-friendly deal initially.

Tretter is still searching for a new home, which is the clearest sign yet that the player’s best days are behind him.
