Carolina Panthers could draft Trevor Penning

  • Offensive Tackle | Northern Iowa

Another prospect that’s generating a lot of interest during events such as the 2022 Senior Bowl and NFL Scouting Combine is Trevor Penning. The offensive lineman was seen throwing around defensive players like rag dolls in Mobile and even though that won’t fly in the pros, it did make scouts sit up and take notice regarding what he could potentially bring right out of the gate.

Penning mauled almost everyone that he came up against in college, even though the standard of competition wasn’t great at Northern Iowa. His power at the point of attack is exceptional and this is matched by quick feet that keep pass-rushers at bay more often than not.

This saw many believe that Penning will be one of the first tackles off the board after the top-three prospects are taken. The Carolina Panthers are in a position to select someone like Charles Cross, but if they opt for a trade-down then he could be considered.

There are some major problems where Penning is concerned. He has a big target on his back after his aggressiveness during drills at the Senior Bowl, the prospect is high in his stance and his technique could lead to some discipline problems in terms of penalties once he gets to the NFL.

Much will depend on what the Panthers do at No. 6 overall. Taking Penning in the top-10 would be a major reach and even if he somehow ended up in Carolina, then there’s no guarantee he could provide the immediate impact needed.
