Carson Strong scouting report
- Height: 6-foot-4
- Weight: 226 pounds
- Arm length: 32 inches
- Hand size: 9.125 inches
- 2021 PFF grade: 89.1
Carson Strong went out with a bang at Nevada, completing 70.1 percent of his passes for 4,175 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, eight interceptions, and an impressive passer efficiency rating of 157.0. The standard of competition might not have been all that high, but the quarterback couldn’t have done much more to bolster his stock before taking his chances at the next level.
Being overlooked is nothing new to Strong. He wasn’t highly recruited out of high school and always seems to be fighting a losing battle in pursuit of winning people over.
However, there is a lot to like about Strong’s skill set when putting on the film. His arm is already NFL-ready, with the player producing constant throws with velocity and he also has absolutely no trouble getting the football downfield in rapid fashion.
Strong’s release is first-class, he is accurate, and also has the necessary footwork to keep plays alive in the pocket for good measure.
The one major flaw regarding Strong is a lack of athleticism. He is a prototypical pocket passer and this limited mobility might cause complications in the NFL unless the offensive line in front of the player is top-notch.
The prospect also takes more risks than one would usually like. Although Strong cannot be knocked for lacking confidence in his own ability to put the football where it needs to go.
Perhaps the biggest red flag of all for the Carolina Panthers and others in the league is Strong’s injury history. He has already had two serious surgeries on his knee, which is always going to make teams think twice.
