Carolina Panthers could draft Matt Corral

  • Quarterback | Ole Miss

It’s been a frustrating assessment process for Matt Corral after the quarterback suffered an injury during his final appearance for Ole Miss. However, the prospect has already proven that this ankle complication won’t have any long-term implications on his fortunes and is definitely in play for first-round consideration as a result.

Corral has arguably the best production of any signal-caller in this class. He completely outplayed Malik Willis when the Rebels came up against Liberty in 2021 and has had no trouble rising to the big occasion in a hugely competitive SEC conference.

The Carolina Panthers have taken a keen interest in Corral in recent weeks. His lightning-fast release and accuracy over short-to-intermediate routes make him a tremendous scheme fit for Ben McAdoo’s system – so the offensive coordinator’s opinion will be vital if the organization does contemplate going in this direction.

There are some questions surrounding Corral’s size and whether he can withstand the punishment long-term. He will also need to take fewer risks against legitimate NFL-caliber defenses that will punish mistakes early and often.

Carolina might go down the veteran route with someone like Baker Mayfield or Jimmy Garoppolo. If they don’t, then Corral might be QB1 on their board given his experience, talent, and how he’d fit into McAdoo’s game plan.
