Carolina Panthers must add another safety

After the Carolina Panthers addressed their two most important needs early in the 2022 NFL Draft, it was something of a surprise to see them not add to their safety options a little lower down the pecking order.

The team might be happy with their current options after acquiring Xavier Woods in free agency from the Minnesota Vikings. Carolina also re-signed Juston Burris and Sean Chandler to boost depth behind the starting duo.

Keeping Jeremy Chinn on the backend will also help. But defensive coordinator Phil Snow indicated during his recent media availability that he would prefer it if the Panthers got themselves another safety before the all-important preparation period ramps up in the coming weeks.

Unless undrafted free agent Drew Hartlaub makes exceptional strides to win a roster spot, then the Panthers should look to the free-agent market for any potential veterans that could fit in nicely.

That will not include Tyrann Mathieu, who recently signed for the New Orleans Saints, but there are a couple of enticing options available to the Panthers if they went in this particular direction.
