Carolina Panthers have competition for places

Things had become a little stagnant within the locker room last 2021. Many veterans seemed complacent with no real threat to their jobs, which also came with a distinct lack of accountability when questioned about their poor level of production in front of the media.

This did not go unnoticed by returning quarterback Cam Newton, who was used to a much higher standard throughout his first stint with the Carolina Panthers. The former NFL MVP declared that not everyone bought in last time around – something that simply has to change if Matt Rhule wants to stand any chance of galvanizing his head coaching career.

After an encouraging spell of incomings this offseason, there appears to be far more competition for places across the board than at any stage during the previous campaign. This should increase urgency in training camp with a view to improved performance when the real action begins.

Perhaps the most fascinating is the expected quarterback battle between Matt Corral and Sam Darnold. The rookie comes with some likable traits providing things come together quickly and there is no doubt he possesses far more upside than the USC product based on a torrid first four years in the league.
