General manager Dan Morgan has some important decisions to make in the coming days. The Carolina Panthers are edging closer toward final cuts, which means the league will be a hive of activity before Sunday's deadline as teams look to get the upper hand.
The Panthers might be able to use this to their advantage. And even though Morgan has resisted the temptation to make many trades since taking charge of the front office, the former linebacker is constantly looking to strike the right deal.
Whether there would be interest in any player deemed surplus to requirements is anyone's guess. But given how much stronger and deeper Carolina's roster is these days, it might be worth making a few calls to see if someone wants to jump the queue.
With this in mind, here are three potential Panthers trade chips who could be dealt before or during roster cutdowns.

John Metchie III, WR
The Panthers have a numbers game brewing at wide receiver. There are only so many free spots, and some good players will be removed from the equation. Before then, Morgan should do everything in his power to gauge interest from around the league.
Looking at who'll make the squad and who could potentially draw suitors if they are no longer part of the franchise's plans, John Metchie III seems the most feasible. The former Alabama playmaker has done well over the preseason, but if he doesn't make it, another club could be tempted to take him off Carolina's hands.
Metchie is a decent player, but his lack of value on special teams could make him the odd man out.
Trevin Wallace, LB
While the market wouldn't be hot for third-year linebacker Trevin Wallace, there might be a team out there willing to bet on his pre-draft potential finally becoming something more.
Wallace is currently fighting it out with Claudin Cherelus for the LB2 job alongside second-team All-Pro linebacker Devin Lloyd. The former Kentucky standout could be the frontrunner right now, but neither has really stood out. If Morgan can find an upgrade before Week 1 against the Chicago Bears, he should.
This would be a long shot. And though Wallace's role on the defensive rotation might diminish, Morgan won't want to give up on his choice easily.
Ja'Tavion Sanders, TE
The Panthers' tight-end dynamic has changed since the arrival of Darren Waller. He's being integrated into the lineup slowly, but his size and athleticism could represent an upgrade on anything Carolina has if he gets a clear run of luck on the injury front.
There are already ripple effects emerging. Not everyone will make it, and the Panthers will need to trim the fat in some capacity. Ja'Tavion Sanders might be the one to make way, but it's a big call to make after only two seasons.
Maybe this decision would become much easier if the Panthers could find a trade partner for Sanders. His production over the last two years wouldn't get a big offer, but something is better than nothing in this scenario.
