The Carolina Panthers suffered a disappointing Week 3 loss to the Cleveland Browns. But head coach Dave Canales has much more than the result to worry about moving forward.
Several key figures went down with injuries, joining the already long list on the shelf. And based on Canales' comments after the game, real concern is growing around cornerback Jaycee Horn's status.
Canales said that of all the players forced off the field in Cleveland, Horn had no chance of returning.

The Panthers will have to run more tests. However, not giving Horn the green light to get back involved makes it an anxious wait for fans before further details surface.
"We're going to have to evaluate that and see where he's at. But he was not going to be coming back in."
It's not hard to see why fans are concerned.
Horn has emerged as one of the league's most prolific shutdown corners, providing smothering coverage and impressive run-stopping ability. Missing him for any length of time would be disappointing, but with the Detroit Lions coming up on Sunday Night Football, the Panthers will need him.
That's an understatement.
After an injury-hit first couple of seasons in Carolina, it's been relatively encouraging on the health front for Horn ever since. He missed two games in 2024 and one in 2025. Hopefully, it's nothing too serious this time around, because his importance to the team's defensive strategy cannot be overstated.

Couple that with Mike Jackson Sr. leaving the Week 3 game early, and the Panthers might face the prospect of being without their top two cornerbacks when Detroit's high-octane offense comes to Bank of America Stadium.
That would be disastrous to the team's chances, to put it mildly.
The Panthers have been hit hard on injuries so far. Ikem Ekwonu, Taylor Moton, Nic Scourton, Tershawn Wharton, and Chris Brazzell II are out long-term. Devin Lloyd, Nick Scott, and Bobby Brown III have all missed time this season. Now, the likes of Horn, Jackson, and wide receiver Jalen Coker are also dealing with issues.
And with the Panthers sitting at 1-2 through three weeks, it's an all-hands-on-deck scenario.
Not having Horn would completely change the backfield dynamic. He's been spending a lot of time in the slot this season, with rookie fourth-rounder Will Lee III on the boundary. Opposing offenses have to take his inside-out versatility and physical presence seriously. Without it, there will be more weak links to exploit in the secondary.
If Jackson also isn't at 100 percent, it's hard to tell how bad things could get.
There are a lot of unknowns. Canales didn't sound too optimistic, but additional tests will tell us more.
And everyone associated with the Panthers will be hoping for good news.
