WHEW!!!

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

On the road, needing a win to stay in the division race the Carolina Panthers did something they hadn’t done in weeks – they started fast.  The problem was that they didn’t keep it up.
Leading 21-10 at the half, it looked like they were on their way to a blowout victory.  The defense took a breather, however, and gave up 18 straight points including a 95-yard drive and a two-point conversion that tied the game at 21.

Another Kickoff Time Moved

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Carolina Panthers have had another kickoff time moved back according to the Associated Press.
The NFL has shifted the starting time for the Carolina Panthers’ home game with the Denver Broncos on Dec. 14 from 1 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.
The move is part of the league’s flexible scheduling that allows television networks to move starting times. The Broncos-Panthers game will be televised by CBS.
It’s the second time this season the Panthers have had a starting time changed. Their game at Atlanta last Sunday was also moved back three hours to 4:15 p.m.
The change will allow for a few more hours [...]

A Gamble Paid Off

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Breaking News, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Carolina Panthers made the first of three deals necessary to keep the core of their team together on Friday.  They signed Chris Gamble to a contract extension believed to be for six years.  A Denver television station has reported that the deal could max out at $54.55 million, with $23 million in total guarantees, including $16 million in guaranteed roster and signing bonuses.
That’s some serious coin flow for a guy who has been solid.  Go back and re-watch this season’s games.  Teams tend to shy away from Gamble’s side of the field.

Will Black Friday Be Followed by Black Sunday?

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Carolina Panthers fans, you know you’re guilty.  All season, we’ve seen our team winning consistently.  Comeback wins.  An 8-2 start.  The revival of Jake Delhomme.  The return of Muhsin Muhammad.
Thinking of 2003?  Probably.
There was a painful stretch five years ago when the team went on a three-game losing streak after starting with an identical 8-2 mark.  Sure, they wound up in Super Bowl XXXVIII but that run of losses was painful to watch.

NFC South Breakdown: Week 12

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

(John White writes for Cat Crave, which is FSB’s Carolina Panthers blog. Representing the rest of the NFC South are Blogging Dirty, The Pewter Plank. and Who Dat Dish.)
Last to first.  It’s been the mantra of the NFC South since the day it was born.  Literally.  In six previous seasons we’ve seen the last place team from the year before go on to win the division the following year five times.  Last year’s cellar dweller in the NFC South?  Atlanta.
Could this be a little bit of history repeating?  And who in the world would have ever predicted it?
Call it premature but it could be [...]

An Opportunity Thrown Away

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Today was a chance for the Carolina Panthers to take a two-game lead on Atlanta and maintain their slim one-game lead on Tampa Bay.  Opportunity lost.
Maybe the team didn’t get enough sleep Saturday night.  Maybe the players were upset that they had been asked to play in Atlanta.  Maybe some bad meat was served during the pre-game meal.

Joey Porter, Please Shut Up!

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Panthers | COMMENTS: 3 Comments

Being part of the NFC South and a fan of Carolina Panthers, comes with reminders of some things that you would just as soon forget – DeAngelo Hall, Rae Carruth, Deion Sanders and Michael Vick.  Let’s face it, one of those topics hasn’t gone away and will probably not go away anytime in the near future: Michael Vick.
Next summer, Vick will be released from prison for his role (we all know he was the ring leader, don’t we?) in a dog fighting ring.  He will likely serve out his sentence and will follow that up with a petition for reinstatement [...]

Superman’s New Kryptonite: Tobacco

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Jeremy Bridges, the Carolina Panthers guard, is just happy to still be alive.  He had a pretty scary incident prior to the Detroit game last Sunday.
The incident began Sunday morning when Bridges woke up at the team hotel in downtown Charlotte and felt like his heart was beating out of his chest. He wrote off the problem to waking up in a hurry, but when he got to the stadium a few hours before the Panthers were scheduled to play the Detroit Lions his conditions got worse.
