As pre-draft workouts come to a close, the Carolina Panthers are set to bring in a corner on Wednesday.

As the NFL Draft approaches quickly, teams are wrapping up their prospect visits and the Carolina Panthers are no exception. Wednesday, it was reported LSU cornerback Donte Jackson is visiting the Panthers.

Jackson is known to have a nose for the football. In three seasons with the Tigers, he recorded 110 tackles. In 2017, he appeared in 11 games recording 45 total tackles (29 solo, 16 assisted) in addition to an interception and a sack.

His best game of the 2017 campaign came in a win against Florida. In that contest, he recorded nine tackles (four solo, five assisted) and a pass deflection. He was second on the team in tackles during that contest

This is a guy the Carolina Panthers should keep an eye on. With the recent legal trouble of Darryl Worley, cornerback has become a position of need. It is not that they Panthers lack talent at the position. In fact, with players such as James Bradberry (who wants to have a big year) at the position, the team may have more talent at the position than originally thought. It is a matter of depth and team outlook for the 2018 season and beyond.

The Panthers want to get younger. That was apparent from the start of the offseason. Drafting a versatile, athletic cornerback like Jackson would fall in line with the team’s vision. Playing in the SEC also works in the Panthers favor as he has faced some of the best competition in college football. With receivers such as Mike Evans, DeSean Jackson and Julio Jones within the division, the competition for the Panther corners will not be a walk in the park.

How the Carolina Panthers attack the Draft will be interesting to see. They have a lot of needs and how they address them will be crucial to their future.
