Trading up into the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft for Jeremy Chinn was one of Marty Hurney’s finest moves as general manager. This provided the Carolina Panthers with a difference-maker that has a rare ability to make things happen all over the field and from multiple positions.

Chinn returned to his college position last season with minimal fuss. There are still some times when the player struggles in coverage, but another 100-tackle campaign and being named as a Pro Bowl alternate are two examples that the Southern Illinois product took another big step in the right direction.

The Panthers are moving forward with Chinn at safety and got him a more productive partner this offseason when Xavier Woods signed from the Minnesota Vikings in free agency. This should allow the third-year-pro to be instinctive in pursuit of maximizing his overall influence on Phil Snow’s defense.

Chinn has absolutely everything going for him. He is fast, dynamic, physical, and plays the game with an infectious enthusiasm that’s made him one of the team’s most beloved players among the fanbase.

Should Chinn evolve his game further in the coming months, then he’ll go from being underrated to a bonafide NFL star. It might even earn him a lucrative deal along the way.
