The linebacking core is one of the least solidified positions for the Carolina Panthers. Shaq Thompson is a constant presence and Frankie Luvu is going to see an increased role this season with the other starting likely being Damien Wilson in the middle.

That trio will be a big part of whether or not the defense will thrive. While Luvu and Thompson are consistent, there are some serious question marks about the interior – something that’s been prevalent within the organization since Luke Kuechly announced his shock retirement after the 2019 campaign.

Cory Littleton will see a bit of playing time as well. He already has established chemistry with Thompson from their college days at Washington and could be a major asset to call upon in obvious passing situations.

Brandon Smith is a polarizing rookie who made some big plays this preseason. If he continues to develop fast, the fourth-round selection out of Penn State could be able to insert his way into the starting lineup at some stage, which is the best-case scenario for the player and the Panthers.

Julian Stanford is a solid player on special teams and has been with the Panthers for several seasons at this point.
