After the Carolina Panthers gave up 59 points and 552 yards to the Chicago Bears in Week 1, linebacker Devin Lloyd helped lead one of the biggest defensive turnarounds imaginable in Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons.
Lloyd was at the center of everything during a performance for the ages.
The Panthers' free-agent signing finished the first half with eight tackles, a sack, two tackles for loss, and a pass breakup. He later added two interceptions, including a 53-yard return and a pick-six that helped turn an already dominant afternoon into a rout.

This is the version of Lloyd that Carolina paid so handsomely for soon after the legal tampering window opened.
Lloyd was around the ball constantly. He blew up plays in the backfield, got to Falcons quarterback Cooper Rush for a sack, broke up a pass, and made a huge fourth-down stop on wide receiver Drake London before taking over the game with his interceptions.
The second interception might have been the most fitting play of Lloyd's afternoon.
After Carolina forced the Falcons to turn to undrafted rookie signal-caller Jack Strand, the former Utah standout immediately picked him off and returned it for a touchdown.
A week after giving up 59 points, the Panthers' defense looked different. Carolina tackled better, created turnovers, and completely shut down an Atlanta offense that managed only three points. Lloyd set the tone, and others willingly followed.

Lloyd faced a lot of pressure coming into this season.
The Panthers made him one of their biggest offseason investments, pairing him with edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to turn the defense into a legitimate strength. Carolina also gave him a leadership role almost immediately, naming him one of the team's five captains for 2026.
And then there is the Luke Kuechly connection.
Lloyd spent time watching film with Kuechly during training camp as he tried to learn more about the standard Carolina has expected from its middle linebackers.
Based on this showing, it's had the desired effect. And this was easily the most dominant performance from any Carolina linebacker since Kuechly was on the field.
The biggest thing now is consistency. Carolina can't afford to swing from giving up 59 points and 291 rushing yards one week to holding an opponent to three points the next, and then fall back into the same problems.
Lloyd has already shown he can produce tackles. He did that in Week 1. What he showed in Atlanta was something else entirely. He looked like a player who can actually change the way this defense operates.
And if the Panthers keep getting that version of Lloyd, they may have finally found the linebacker they have been waiting for.
