You’re Kidding, Right?

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Panthers | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Jake Delhomme has completed one of the most amazing comebacks we have ever witnessed in sports.  The Carolina Panthers quarterback went out in game three of the ‘07 season with an elbow injury.  Three surgeries and a massive rehab later, he’s back.
After undergoing Tommy John Surgery on his throwing elbow – something previously unheard of for a quarterback – he managed to get himself back on the field, lead his team to a 12-4 record and posted 3288 yards, 15 touchdowns and hit on nearly 60% of his passes.

A Quick Look at the Playoffs

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Panthers | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The NFC playoff field is set and the matchups for the first weekend of the postseason look like this (more detail later):
5.  Atlanta Falcons
@

4.  Arizona Cardinals
Is there anybody living today who would have even suggested that this matchup was possible in the playoffs?  Anybody?  Doubtful.
Arizona comes in as the four seed simply because they won the worst division in the league – unless you’re counting the AFC West.  They have that explosive passing game with Kurt Warner but they can’t do much else.  They have acted as if they were just happy to be in the playoffs since they got [...]

Cats Provide Cardiac

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

All that talk about the Cardiac Cats?  Well, after a few hits with the paddles to get our hearts re-started, fans of the Carolina Panthers could finally celebrate an NFC South Championship and a victory over the New Orleans Saints.
The first half looked like a total mismatch.  The Panthers were on a mission and the Saints looked like a team playing out their season.  DeAngelo Williams had rushed for 143 yards, more than any back had totaled in a half all season in the NFL.

NFC South Breakdown: Week 16

They had their chances and couldn’t close the deal.  The Carolina Panthers could have clinched the division and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.  The Giants had other ideas.  Now, with one week to play, those same Panthers will have to win or hope the pesky Atlanta Falcons lose.  Meanwhile, one team was already out of playoff contention while another seems to be backing its way out.
Atlanta Falcons (10-5):

Recovery

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

After many hours of reflection and some serious psycho therapy, the loss to the Giants may have sunk in with all of us by now.  Our Carolina Panthers simply didn’t get it done.
There are some problems still here hanging over our heads, though.
So, you ask why they are hanging over our heads?  Let’s face it, fans that follow a team religiously, faithfully, play by play tend to feel a loss like the one our team suffered in the New Jersey landfill for quite a while.  And the fallout can be brutal.  Worry and stress can replace the euphoric feelings created [...]

This One Is Gonna Hurt For A While

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Fanzone/Tailgating, Gameday, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

What is there to say after a game like the one we witnessed Sunday night?  The Carolina Panthers had their chances and looked like a lock to win home field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Something happened.  Whatever it was leaves a result that will hurt fans for a long time.
If you want a key play, try this one – 1:39 to play in the first half, New York at their own 45 yard line.  A draw play to Derrick Ward takes the ball to the Carolina 21.  What resulted was a field goal that would cut the Panthers lead to 21-10 [...]

Dominoes Begin to Fall

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Breaking News, Fanzone/Tailgating, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

Let’s say this as loud as possible – THE CAROLINA PANTHERS ARE IN THE PLAYOFFS!
Saturday night, the Baltimore Ravens took down the big, bad Dallas Cowboys in the final game played at the stadium with that stupid hole in the roof.  As a result, the Carolina Panthers are guaranteed a playoff berth.
Now, on to the next domino – making the playoffs as the number one seed by beating the New York Giants!

Vincent Placed on IR

AUTHOR: John White | IN: Breaking News, Panthers | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Associated Press is reporting that Keydrick Vincent is gone for the year.
The Carolina Panthers have placed right guard Keydrick Vincent on injured reserve, ending the starter’s season because of a groin injury from a week ago.
The Panthers filled the roster spot Saturday by promoting defensive tackle Nick Hayden from the practice squad. Hayden will provide insurance because tackle Maake Kemoeatu has a sprained right ankle and is questionable for Sunday’s game at the New York Giants.
Vincent had been the only Panthers’ offensive linemen to start all 14 games this season. He left last Sunday’s win over Denver in the [...]
