Excitement is palpable for the Carolina Panthers entering their first season as division champions in a decade. And looking at their opening games, head coach Dave Canales has a real chance to get off on the front foot.
It won't be easy. The Panthers have a first-place schedule to navigate and many challenges. They have injuries to key personnel, and it's hard to tell how offensive coordinator Brad Idzik will fare as a first-time NFL play-caller.
At the same time, the Panthers are closer to being a legitimate contender than at any point under David Tepper's ownership so far. Not exactly a high bar, but it's a reason for optimism if young players develop further and the new arrivals hit the ground running.
With this in mind, we predicted how the first four games might go for the Panthers before their early bye week.
Predicting the Carolina Panthers' first five games of a pivotal 2026 season
Carolina Panthers vs. Bears - Week 1
The Panthers have not won a Week 1 game since 2021. As they look to defend their NFC South crown this season, Canales' squad cannot afford a slow start again.
This will be challenging.
Like the Panthers, the Chicago Bears are coming off a playoff appearance and are looking to take the next step into legitimate contention. They kept the core of their roster intact, and quarterback Caleb Williams should come on significantly after a breakout year.
Prediction: Win (1-0)
Forcing Williams into mistakes is key. And if the Panthers can take advantage of a secondary going through complications without free-agent signing Coby Bryant, they can secure success.
Carolina Panthers at Falcons - Week 2
Fans don't have to wait long for their first divisional matchup. The Panthers travel to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2, and this has been a relatively happy hunting ground for Carolina in recent years.
And that might not change this year, either.
The Falcons have talent. They also have some major issues at quarterback, with Tua Tagovailoa suffering another injury that rules him out of Week 1. With Michael Penix Jr. still not ready, Atlanta is forced to move forward with Cooper Rush until further notice.
Prediction: Win (2-0)
Even if Tagovailoa is back next week, he's not dependable. And the new-look Panthers' defense should feast their way to victory.
Carolina Panthers at Browns - Week 3
If the Panthers are 2-0 heading into their trip to the Cleveland Browns, they will be brimming with confidence. On paper, this is another magnificent opportunity to get another win in the column.
The Browns are in transition. They traded All-Pro defensive end Myles Garrett, opting to cut their losses and focus on the future. Cleveland still has talent on defense, but going with Deshaun Watson as their starting quarterback seems like a recipe for disaster.
Prediction: Win (3-0)
Carolina has nothing to fear here. If they can stop Quinshon Judkins on the ground and Jerry Jeudy through the air, the Panthers could have a comfortable afternoon at the office.
Carolina Panthers vs. Lions - Week 4
Even though the Detroit Lions propped up the NFC North last season, this could be Carolina's toughest game of its early run. Dan Campbell's squad is healthy and looking to make up for some lost time. And now, all their big hitters are seemingly healthy.
Jahmyr Gibbs is a phenomenon. Amon-Ra St. Brown can make things happen, and Jared Goff remains one of the league's more underrated quarterbacks. With an improved defense to lean on this year, this is going to be a stern test of the Panthers' credentials before the bye week.
Prediction: Loss (3-1)
This will be a contest decided by fine margins. Unfortunately for the Panthers, the Lions have enough big-game performers to narrowly win.
Still, if the Panthers could take a 3-1 record after four contests right now, they would.
