The Carolina Panthers believed wide receiver Terrace Marshall Jr. could become a franchise cornerstone. Their faith was misplaced, and the once-promising pass-catcher has been on a downward spiral since general manager Dan Morgan pulled the plug on this costly experiment.
Unfortunately for Marshall, this trend continued before final cuts. And one has to wonder just where his NFL dreams go from here.
According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler, the Miami Dolphins have released Marshall, ending his brief but underwhelming stint with the franchise. The No. 59 overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft now faces an anxious wait to see if another team comes calling, but the prospect of that happening anytime soon doesn't appear too optimistic.

Stranger things have happened. But it seems unlikely all the same.
The Panthers gave Marshall countless chances to prove himself, but he never capitalized on them. Standing out over the summer was never an issue for the wideout. When it came to getting it done when things mattered more, the LSU product often floundered.
Morgan gave up on Marshall during final cuts in 2024. He's bounced around the league ever since, but Miami wanted to see if something could be salvaged by giving him a reserve/futures contract.
Aside from a few flashes over training camp, it wasn't enough to book his place on the 53-man roster. Perhaps the Dolphins will bring him back onto the practice squad, but there is just no telling for sure.
The Panthers could see Marshall's concerning trajectory a mile away. He wasn't Morgan's draft pick, so there was no emotional attachment whatsoever. Given how his career has gone since Carolina, the team has been vindicated for taking drastic action.
Considering how much talent was on the LSU offense that blitzed their way to a national championship — a team that featured Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson, and Ja'Marr Chase — Marshall's fortunes in the pros have been a major letdown.
And if this is the end, the player can have no complaints whatsoever.
As for the Panthers? Things are looking much more promising in their wide receiver room these days.
They have Tetairoa McMillan and Jalen Coker as their confirmed 1-2 punch for quarterback Bryce Young to depend upon. The Panthers lost third-round rookie Chris Brazzell II for the season after a torn LCL, but there are several others hoping to make bigger contributions. And it would be surprising if new play-caller Brad Idzik didn't make better use of the available receiver assets.
Those plans haven't included Marshall for a while. His draft bust status was confirmed even longer before that. And now, this could very well be the end of his road as an NFL player.
