I’m amazed. I’m dumbfounded. I’m baffled. I’m not sure why I’m writing this on a Saturday. Yes I am. It’s because another of the widely-accepted media outlets has provided Carolina Panthers fans with another reason to scratch their heads.
This time it’s an article written by a former outsider who has become accepted enough to write for a “major publication’s” website – Mike Florio. (You might know him better as the anti-estabilshment blogger from Pro Football Talk.) Now, he’s writing two columns per week for the Sporting News’ website.

Playoffs? Playoffs?
Fill in the Blanks
Raise your hand if you’re tired of hearing about nothing except Jake Delhomme’s elbow! Keep ‘em up so we can get an accurate count. Okay. All of you! It unanimous!
That’s good because Jake’s gotta be tired of talking about it, John Fox has to be done discussing it and bloggers everywhere are growing weary of typing line after line including key words (“tags” as they’re referred to in the Biz) such as “Tommy John Surgery,” “elbow,” “rehab,” “arm strength” and my personal favorite “zip” (as in the zip on his passes).
After receiving a mandate from the vote we just took, [...]
Roster Limits Making an Impact
During the run of NFL Europa (previously known as NFL Europe) NFL teams were allowed to have as many as 86 players in camp. The roster limit was still 80, just like it is today, but the teams were allowed to use up to six roster exemptions.
Due to the demise of the league across the pond, there are no longer any exemptions allowed. Teams can only carry 80 players into camp.
Carolina Panthers coach John Fox spoke Wednesday about this.

Sauerbrun Sentenced
Todd Sauerbrun is back at it again! This time he’s been charged for disturbing the peace. It seems he got into it with a taxi driver.
Assualt charges were dropped but the former player pleaded guilty to the much lesser charge of disturbing the peace. County Court Judge Andre L. Rudolph ordered Sauerbrun to perform 24 hours of community service through NFL Charities by Oct. 1.
Sauerbrun says he wanted to plead guilty so he could get on with his life and attempt to sign on with another team as a free agent to get his career back. He’s been out of [...]
School’s IN for Summer
This morning, the Carolina Panthers’ players dragged themselves out of bed and went back to school. The teacher in the front of the room wasn’t some school marm wearing those pointed eye glasses with the chain hanging around her neck. It was a coach who was probably no happier than the players about getting up at 6:00 am.
The team is allowed to have 14 days worth of organized team activities, all of which are voluntary. There will be three sessions this week and four sessions for each of the next two weeks.
“It gives us a chance to be on the [...]
Panthers Re-Sign DeLoatch
The Charlotte Observer has reported the following:
The Carolina Panthers on Tuesday re-signed backup cornerback Curtis DeLoatch, who played six games last season before injuring his knee against Indianapolis. DeLoatch, who played at N.C. A&T and was born in Murfreesboro, has played for the New York Giants, New Orleans Saints and the Panthers in four seasons as a pro.
Fill in the Blank
When facing boredom what is a blogger to do? I’ll tell you what he does – he runs around the internet like a chicken with its head cut off looking for articles and then reposts them while he’s complaining about what the other guy wrote. That’s what he does.
Matt Moseley on ESPN’s website writes some interesting things about the Carolina Panthers and their potential for being in the playoff hunt next season.
Coach John Fox spent much of last year saying he didn’t like to make excuses and then turning right around and telling anyone who would listen how tough it [...]

Final Thoughts – Need to Know
Five Years After
In the world of the NFL, five years is an eternity. A lot can happen.
It’s only been four full seasons and five offseasons since the Carolina Panthers reached Super Bowl XXVIII. In that time, the team has undergone an incredible retooling.
Consider this – of the players who appeared on the team’s 2003 roster, only ten remain – Brad Hoover, Donte Wesley, Jake Delhomme, Jason Kyle, John Kasay, Jordan Gross, Julius Peppers, Muhsin Muhammad (who returned), Nick Goings, and Steve Smith.
Jason Taylor? Not a Chance!
Cruising through message boards today for several teams, one name kept coming up – Jason Taylor. First, it was all about that pathetic little show called “Dancing With the Stars.” Would he win? Would Kristi Yamaguchi take that ugly mirror ball trophy?
Suddenly, Taylor dropped the bomb on everybody – he isn’t going to be reporting to training camp in Miami. He wants to be traded. When he did, the tenor of the messages being posted on these forums changed dramatically. Now fans were asking completely different questions. Would you want to trade for Jason Taylor? What is wrong with this [...]
